OPEN CALL AND REHEARSAL TO START HOMELESS CHOIR IN SANTA MONICA DECEMBER 19th AT SANTA MONICA MAIN LIBRARY, SAN DIEGO’S VOICES OF OUR CITY HOMELESS CHOIR TO PERFORM

This event is for homeless people who wish to express themselves through music and start their own choir similar to San Diego’s Voices of our City Choir and to use this as opportunity to identify a director to lead the choir.
San Diego’s Voices of Our City Choir (https://www.voicesofourcity.org/) is a soul jazz gospel group that was founded in 2016 by Steph Johnson and Nina Deering as a response to the housing crisis, which pushed thousands of vulnerable, yet talented, citizens into living on the streets. Steph and Nina, established soul/jazz musicians, set out to create a safe place for choir members to meet each week.  The two have helped more than 25 people with housing along with offering support to go back to work, see doctors and promote an overall healthier lifestyle.  The joy from the choir rehearsals has drawn local and national media attention. The choir was created for people experiencing homelessness but is a community choir open to all who would like to join.
