Shirley Temple Birthday Tea Party

The Santa Monica History Museum is hosting a Shirley Temple birthday tea party and pop-up display. The celebration is honoring the 80th anniversary of Hollywood’s Golden Year and features an exclusive one-day exhibition highlighting Shirley Temple’s last film as a child star, The Blue Bird as well as additional costumes and memorabilia.

1939 is considered Hollywood’s Golden Year. From mid-1938 to early 1940, America experienced a period of new-found hope and prosperity. The Great Depression was ending, and Hollywood was producing lavish, high budget fantasy films such as The Wizard of Oz. Darryl F. Zanuck of 20th Century Fox selected the 1908 play The Blue Bird, an allegorical tale of a child’s search for happiness, to compete with MGM’s The Wizard of Oz. In addition to other film costumes and personal wardrobe, the day-long pop-up display will feature Temple’s costumes from the 1940 Technicolor film “The Blue Bird.”

Tickets: $40
($33 is tax deductible)

A ticket to the tea party will feature:
Viewing of her iconic Blue Bird costume.
Viewing of a selection of additional dresses.
Delicious traditional tea service.
Variety of refreshing tea-sandwiches.
Selection of delectable desserts.

All proceeds from this event and exhibit benefit the educational and preservation mission of the Santa Monica History Museum, a 501 c(3) nonprofit.
