Description of the Event : J.S. Bach Brandenburg Concerto #6
--Jonah Sirota and Jordan Warmath, viola soloists--
Paul Hindemith Der Schwanendreher
--Jonah Sirota, viola soloist--
Brahms Serenade #2
No longer relegated to being the middle bun in the Big Mac of orchestration, just take away the violins and voilà: viola! Jonah Sirota will share the beauty of this warm and woody instrument as soloist in Paul Hindemith’s settings of German folksongs, “Der Schwanendreher”. “The Swan-Turner” was a traveling musician playing a hurdy-gurdy with a crank shaped like a swan’s neck while singing; here represented by the solo viola.
The polyphonic pleasures of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto #6 features TWO viola soloists in an ensemble without violins and Brahms cheerful and sunny Serenade #2 is for an orchestra without violins as well.
Without violins, violas are on top!
Saturday August 24, 7pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in 958 Lincoln Bl. SM
